KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person was found dead during an apartment fire in northeast Kansas City early Friday morning, according to the fire department.
The Kansas City Fire Department was called to the two-story apartment building on Independence Avenue near Kensington Avenue just before 1 a.m. Friday.

When crews arrived, they reported seeing fire toward the back of the building on the second floor.
As firefighters searched the building, they found one person and removed them from the apartment, the fire department said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
By 1:12 a.m., the fire was under control, the fire department said.
The Kansas City Police Department’s Bomb and Arson unit was also called to the scene to investigate.
