KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead following a shooting Tuesday night in Northeast Kansas City.
Officers with the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) responded to the shooting around 8:20 p.m. in the area of Gardner Avenue and Chouteau Trafficway.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a car that had been stopped near the intersection with a man inside who was unresponsive. Officers later determined the victim was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced dead.
KCPD said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was inside of the car when he was hit by gunfire.
Police said at this time it is unknown if the suspect was inside another car, or traveling on foot. No suspect is currently in custody.
