Police officials told the outlets that the 19-year-old student had CPR performed on him by the fire department before being rushed to the hospital. He was described as being in a “critical condition.”

PEOPLE has contacted Alpha Delta Phi, the Berkeley Police Department, University of California, Berkeley for further information but did not immediately receive a response.
Alpha Delta Phi national leadership also gave a statement to CBS News revealing that they were “aware” of the incident and were “fully cooperating with the local authorities; our priority is the safety and well-being of all members and guests. As this remains an active investigation, we are unable to provide additional details at this time.”
UC Berkeley revealed that police are investigating the incident, per SFGATE.
CBS News noted that any students impacted by the incident could access free psychological services at UC Berkeley. The college added that any student in need should reach out to the Counseling and Psychological Services.
SFGATE reports that the university’s fraternities and sororities are located off-campus, most with “recognized” status from the university. Recognized groups are “subject to oversight by University staff,” according to UC Berkeley. Unrecognized fraternities or sororities often had that status revoked after hazing or alcohol violations.
