Massachusetts could see its first frost of the season on Saturday night as cold temperatures blanket the state.
Though no frost advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to dip as low as 35 degrees in some areas β which does fall in the 33 to 36-degree frost advisory range, said forecaster Kyle Pederson.
Areas across Central and Western Massachusetts have the best chance of seeing frost on Saturday night. This includes from northern Worcester County to the Berkshires, which are projected to be in the 35 to 37-degree range, Pederson said. He added that those at higher elevations have the highest chances.
However, parts of Eastern Massachusetts like Taunton and other low-lying areas could also see patches of frost, he said, with temperatures projected to be 39 degrees overnight on Saturday.
Temperatures arenβt expected to dip until after midnight and should rise again after sunrise on Sunday, Pederson added. Statewide, it should still be in the 50-degree range by 8 p.m. on Saturday night.
The rest of northern New England β all of Vermont, and the majorities of New Hampshire and Maine included β are under a frost advisory from the National Weather Service for Saturday night.
Other than the potential frozen dew, dry weather patterns are expected to continue into Sunday as temperatures rise into the 60s and low 70s.
The first day of fall this year is Sept. 22.
