Mileage isn’t the right way to measure the distance between two babies born the same day with the same-sounding name.
Myles and Miles were coincidentally born feet apart — and minutes apart — to separate families in the same Florida hospital on a recent afternoon.
HCA Florida Brandon Hospital announced that they welcomed Myles and Miles “in a heartwarming coincidence” in Brandon on Oct. 27.
“Myles Retzer of Riverview made his entrance first at 12:43 p.m., weighing 6 lbs., 14 ounces and measuring 20 inches long,” the hospital said.
“Just eleven minutes later, Miles Bartz of Plant City arrived at 12:54 p.m., weighing 4 lbs., 11 ounces and measuring 18.5 inches long,” it added.

The hospital emphasized that the two baby boys “were born handsome, healthy and ready to take on the world,” and that the Retzer and Bartz families got to meet each other before they were all discharged.
Dr. Emily Richter, an obstetrician at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, described the rare coincidence as “special and unique.”
“In all my years, I can’t recall witnessing two babies with the same name born so close together,” Richter said. “Birth stories are always memorable, but this is one these families and our team won’t forget.”
Elaborating on the meeting between the two families, Lauren Youngberg, a nurse manager for Women’s Services, said everyone will “treasure” it.

“Watching the families meet and seeing the joy and surprise in their faces truly made our day,” she said. “It reminds us why we do what we do. This is a moment we will remember and treasure, and who knows, maybe these boys will grow up together or even graduate side-by-side one day.”
