The Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State Governor, Yinka Oyebode, has said that more than 300 groups have declared support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-term bid.
Oyebode, who spoke during a live radio programme in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday alongside the Special Adviser on Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said last week’s massive turnout of Ekiti citizens in Abuja for Oyebanji’s submission of his All Progressives Congress nomination form reflected the governor’s popularity and acceptance.
He dismissed allegations that the state government funded the trip, insisting that participants bore their own costs.
“The Abuja trip was at no cost to the state government. The groups and individuals present were responsible for their fares and welfare out of their own volition, in a display of corporate and individual support for the governor’s re-election,” he said.
Oyebode explained that several organisations, including the Ekiti State University Alumni Association, had gone further by making financial contributions to support Oyebanji’s second-term campaign.
He described the Abuja gathering as “a showcase of Ekiti’s growing political weight and the respect the governor commands across the country.”
“Over 300 groups have openly declared support for the governor’s second term in office. Some groups like the Ekiti State University Alumni, even backed their commitment with financial contributions in order to ensure the governor’s primary election ticket,” Oyebode said.
The governor’s spokesman also highlighted Oyebanji’s achievements in the last three years, pointing to education reforms that boosted enrollment, agricultural transformation supported with equipment, seedlings, and access to markets, as well as major infrastructure projects such as the ring road, Ikogosi resort upgrades, and 38 completed roads across senatorial districts.
He added that the administration had also enhanced power supply with new transformers.
On his part, Olatunbosun said the turnout in Abuja demonstrated Oyebanji’s total acceptance across all strata of the state.
“The gathering was a reflection of the absolute and unreserved acceptance of the governor for the continuation of his good works, rapid development, accountability, and inclusive governance,” he said.
He described the show of support as “a testament to Governor Oyebanji’s popularity and the satisfaction of Ekiti people with his administration, as well as their desire for continuity of good governance.”
