Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, on Thursday, decorated 37 newly promoted officers with their new ranks of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The ceremony, held at the State Police Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, saw the officers elevated from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to DSP.
The promotion comes as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s nationwide exercise to reward and strengthen operational capacity across commands.
The Police Service Commission, working with the Inspector-General of Police, has recently approved hundreds of promotions aimed at boosting morale and addressing manpower gaps.
While decorating the officers, Sani, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, congratulated the promotees and urged them to see their promotion as a call to higher responsibility.
He reminded them to remain professional, disciplined, and dedicated to their duties, while shunning corruption and unethical practices.
“You must also respect the fundamental human rights of citizens in the discharge of your responsibilities,” the CP said.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, DSP Ahmed Abubakar expressed gratitude to the IGP and the Police Service Commission for the confidence reposed in them.
He pledged that the officers would redouble their efforts in ensuring professionalism and effective policing.
The event was attended by the command’s management team, family members, friends, and well-wishers of the officers.
In Kebbi, where security agencies face challenges such as banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping in rural communities, the elevation of these officers is expected to enhance leadership within divisional commands and specialised units.
Promotions in the force are typically based on years of service, performance evaluations, and adherence to professional ethics, with the IGP often emphasising discipline, respect for human rights, and community-oriented policing as key benchmarks.
The ceremony in Birnin Kebbi not only recognised individual achievement but also reinforced the broader drive to professionalise the police force, strengthen public trust, and improve security delivery at the state level.
