Law enforcement officers have arrested an Alabama Department of Corrections lieutenant on charges of trafficking methamphetamine and marijuana.

Lt. Calvin Bush’s arrest was a part of a larger operation targeting people suspected of smuggling illegal substances and contraband into the St. Clair prison, an ADOC news release states.

ADOC narcotics agents said they found about 8 pounds of methamphetamine, 350 grams of promethazine liquid, 340 grams of synthetic cannabinoid, nine Oxycodone pills, 36 grams of sprayed pepper, 156 cell phones, two cellular hotspots, 19 pounds of marijuana, 100 grams of crack cocaine, 16 grams of powdered cocaine and 610 grams of flakka precursor powder on July 31 at Bush’s residence, according to an ADOC news release. In a related search, agents said they found an additional 2.5 pounds of marijuana and 60 grams of methamphetamine.

Officials placed Bush on mandatory leave pending his dismissal. ADOC agents are continuing their investigation.

“This operation demonstrates a continued commitment to fighting the smuggling of illegal drugs and contraband into our correctional facilities. Prison violence is directly impacted by the flow of illegal drugs,” ADOC Commissioner John Hamm said in a statement.
