LAVONIA, GA (WSPA) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has revealed more information about the officer-involved shooting that left one person injured Thursday.

On Thursday August 7, the Lavonia Police Department responded to a shooting incident at Beaver Dam Circle in Lavonia, regarding reports of a male victim shot by two unknown suspects. Authorities said the victim was transported to a local hospital.

The suspects allegedly ran from the scene, and officers began a search in the area. While searching through nearby homes, authorities claimed that officers attempted to identify a person inside a trailer on Midway Avenue. The person was reported to have been holding a handgun at the time and, when police entered the trailer, allegedly pointed the handgun at the officers.

The Lavonia Police Department said one of the officers fired several times, hitting the person at least once. The person was taken to a hospital, and was confirmed to have not been involved in the previous shooting.

No officers were reported to have been injured during the incident.

At the request of the Lavonia Police Department, the GBI said they will be investigating the incident.

On Friday August 8, the GBI received arrest warrants for the person in the trailer, identified as 22-year-old Ty’Ravis Lee Simpson of Franklin County. Simpson is wanted for two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, two counts of possession of a firearm during a felony, and reckless conduct.

Simpson is still at the hospital, and the GBI said he will be transported to a detention center following his release.
