The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of election monitoring, AIG Taiwo Adeleke, has arrived in Yola ahead of Saturday’s by-election in the Ganye State Constituency of Adamawa State.

Adeleke warned officers and men of the police against engaging in brutality during and after the election, directing them to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the spokesman of the Adamawa Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroji, said the directive was in line with the order of the Inspector-General of Police to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.

“The Adamawa State Police Command today (Thursday) received AIG Taiwo O. Adeleke, AIG in charge of Election Monitoring for the Ganye State Constituency By-Election scheduled for Saturday, 16th August, 2025. The AIG, accompanied by CP Moses Ottah and ACP Husseini Yelwa, met with officers and men of the Command to review operational strategies aimed at achieving a smooth, hitch-free election,” the statement partly read.

Adeleke urged all personnel to remain professional, impartial, and civil when dealing with members of the public, stressing that the police’s constitutional responsibility is to provide security before, during, and after the election.

He added, “CP Dankombo Morris welcomed the AIG and briefed him on the Command’s readiness, including deployment plans and proactive measures taken to ensure the safety of electorates, INEC officials, and election materials.”

The Adamawa State Police Command assured residents of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and called on the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and promptly report any suspicious activity.

The Ganye by-election is being held more than a year after the death of the member representing the constituency, Hon. Abdulmalik Jauro, in May 2024, a seat that has since remained vacant.
