Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Monday dismissed speculations that he planned to change his deputy ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring that Sam Ode would remain his running mate.
Alia made the declaration during the swearing-in of 17 commissioners at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.
“There is no vacancy for any Deputy Governor in 2027. I have a Deputy Governor who understands governance, who is people-oriented, who is always with the people and for the people, one who is very cerebral,” he said.
The governor added, “My Deputy is very capable. He has all the capacity it takes to perform his functions. He understands what is good for Benue, and that is what he is doing exactly. So if anybody is eating and dreaming Deputy, there is no vacancy.
I love him, and I enjoy working with him. I enjoy a personal relationship, so for those wishing negativity, they won’t have their way.”
Turning to the newly inaugurated commissioners, Alia charged them to uphold transparency, accountability, and discipline in the discharge of their duties, stressing that they were chosen for their professionalism.
He urged them to work towards ensuring victory for the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections.
“The journey ahead is even longer. You understand the vision and mission of this administration, which should be fully executed. Open your doors to everyone and share what you have with them. Work for APC victory in 2027. Be administrators and politicians. Spend most of your time with your people,” he said.
The new commissioners include Tiza Imojime, Dr. Yanmar Ortese, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, Ugwu Odoh, Kwaghgba Amande, Aondowase Kunde, Michael Oglegba, and Alumo Orpin. Others are Dennis Ter Iyaghigba, Ogwuche Ejeh Paul, Prof. Yangien Ornguga, Peter Obo Egbodo, James Dwem, Joseph Jir, Mrs. Margaret Adamu, Mrs. Theresa Odachi Ikwue, and Benjamin Ashaver.
