The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Hassan Shado, winner of Saturday’s bye-election for the Okura State Constituency in Kogi State.
Announcing the results at the Egume Collation Centre on Saturday, the Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Onome, disclosed that the APC candidate polled a total of 55,073 votes, while the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement scored 1,038 and 445 votes respectively.
However, the election witnessed low voter turnout, with some opposition parties raising concerns over the credibility of the entire process.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oliver Agundu, while lamenting the low voter turnout, commended the peaceful conduct of the election.
He confirmed that minor incidents were promptly addressed by security agencies.
While some voters expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, others alleged that the process was marred by irregularities.
The National Deputy Director, Organising, APC Headquarters, Isah Daniel and, Allied People’s Movement Candidate, Joseph Egehe, lauded the peaceful conduct of the election, as well as expressed pleasure respectively.
