The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN), has commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for transforming the state capital, declaring that Asaba has witnessed rapid urbanisation under his administration.
Leading a high-powered delegation from the kingdom to Government House in Asaba, on Wednesday, the monarch praised the governor for his “people-oriented” leadership and pledged the full support of his people for his re-election bid in 2027.
A statement on Wednesday made available to The PUNCH quoted the monarch as saying, “The love of my people for you is boundless, unshakable and irreversible. In the past two years of your administration, Asaba has witnessed rapid urbanisation, improved security, and exponential investment across sectors, making it one of the fastest-growing state capitals in Africa.”
The Asagba also expressed gratitude to Oborevwori for personally presenting him with the staff of office in November 2024, describing the gesture as a great honour to the Asaba kingdom.
While pledging continuous support, the monarch urged the governor to give greater consideration to Asaba indigenes in government appointments and to prioritise projects such as the International Conference Centre, a comprehensive master plan for the capital, and improvements in electricity, water, roads, schools, and healthcare facilities in satellite communities.
Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked the Asagba and the people of Asaba for their loyalty, describing traditional rulers as vital partners in governance.
“It is always a pleasure to receive our revered traditional rulers whose wisdom and counsel continue to guide us. Since your ascension, Your Majesty, you have brought peace, unity and cultural pride to the Asaba Kingdom,” he said.
He assured the delegation of his administration’s commitment to consolidating ongoing projects in the state capital, citing the re-awarded storm drainage works to CCECC, the resurfacing of Nnebisi Road with streetlights, and the construction of internal roads through the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency.
The governor further disclosed that the Federal Government had awarded the reconstruction of the Summit Junction–Head Bridge section of the Benin-Asaba Highway to Heartland Construction Company, with his administration assisting in compensation for those affected by the Second Niger Bridge road project.
Reiterating his pledge to inclusive and sustainable growth, Oborevwori urged the Asaba people to extend their goodwill to President Bola Tinubu, stressing the importance of political alignment at the federal level to attract more development to Delta State.
“Asaba is the face of our state, and we must continue to make it beautiful and secure. Working together with our traditional rulers and communities, we will deliver more projects and ensure peace and progress in our state,” he said.
