The Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared that it is tired of the Federal Government’s inaction on issues affecting members of the union.

ASUU also gave conditions to accept the counteroffer to the 2009 agreement currently being worked on by the Federal Government committee headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, had on Thursday said a technical committee headed by Enitan was working on a clean proposal to present to ASUU.

“We’ve decided on a counter-proposal to them. We now close by setting up a high-level technical team to clean up our proposal, come with a clean document,” Alausa told journalists at a press briefing.

The 2009 agreement was the last signed deal between the Federal Government and ASUU.

The union is currently demanding a review of the agreement for improved welfare of lecturers.

Speaking on the counter offer being proposed by the Federal Government, ASUU National President, Chris Piwuna, said only a tangible counter-offer would be accepted by the union.

“I truly hope they will come up with something tangible. Our members are tired of words and no action,” Piwuna said while speaking with Sunday PUNCH.
