A 72-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion supporter has tragically passed away after falling ill during the second half of the club’s Premier League season opener against Fulham.
Despite the dedicated efforts of emergency services, club staff, and the on-site medical team, the man could not be saved.
According to BBC Sport, Brighton’s chief executive, Paul Barber, on Saturday expressed profound sorrow, stating, “We are devastated by the loss of one of our fans at today’s match. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the gentleman’s family and friends. This was a deeply distressing moment for everyone involved, and we are committed to supporting those affected in the days ahead.”
The match, which ended 1-1, was not stopped as Brighton’s safety team, Sussex Police, and the Premier League felt that it may have impacted the resuscitation attempts and created possible further complications had the patient responded and required rapid transportation to the hospital.
