In a major boost to youth empowerment and local capacity building, BUA Cement Plc has flagged off a six-month intensive vocational training programme for 60 youths from Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The initiative, tailored for young men and women from the company’s host communities, is focused on training participants in the operation of heavy-duty earth-moving equipment — a highly sought-after skill in the cement, mining, and construction sectors.
Speaking at the official launch of the programme, the Managing Director of BUA Cement, Yusuf Binji, represented by Bashir Aminu, said the training was designed to tackle the persistent challenge of skills shortage among local job seekers.
“Over the years, we observed that many available positions in our operations could not be filled by locals due to a lack of technical qualifications. This training is BUA’s strategic response to equip youths with skills that can secure them employment, either within BUA or across the broader industrial landscape,” he noted.
To support the participants throughout the programme, BUA Cement will provide each trainee with a monthly stipend of ₦150,000, underscoring the company’s commitment to both skill acquisition and welfare.
Also speaking at the event, the company’s Director of Human Resources, Abdulrosheed Bode, urged the beneficiaries to demonstrate discipline, dedication, and drive during the training.
“You were selected from a large pool of applicants because you showed potential. Now is the time to turn that potential into productivity. Take this training seriously — it could redefine your future,” he said.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Attahiru Ladan expressed heartfelt appreciation to BUA Cement and the community leadership for what he described as a rare opportunity to gain life-changing skills.
“We are truly grateful for this gesture. It’s more than just training — it’s an investment in our future. We pledge to remain focused and make the most of this opportunity,” Ladan stated.
The training programme forms a core part of BUA Cement’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, aimed at promoting sustainable development, reducing youth unemployment, and strengthening ties with host communities.
