  • The university said at the time that no foul play was suspected

  • An autopsy report stated Meyers died by suicide

Authorities have announced the cause of death for an Ohio State University student whose body was found inside the school’s stadium.

William Meyers, 19, died by suicide at the stadium from a jump on Sept. 26, according to an autopsy report from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, obtained by PEOPLE.

On Sept. 26, at 9:56 a.m. local time, fire officials in Columbus, where Ohio Stadium is located, first responded to a call to the scene, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

In a statement previously obtained by PEOPLE, the university confirmed at the time that there was a “fatality at the stadium” that morning and identified the student as 19-year-old William Meyers of Fairfield, Conn.

“Foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” Ohio State said in the statement.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” the university said, “Counseling and Consultation Services are available for students in need of support.”

As described in his LinkedIn profile, Meyers was a third-year accounting student at Ohio State who co-founded a charity with his older brother that donated used and unused sports equipment to local centers.

“Some of my core values are respect, ethics, improvement, and integrity all of which I want to bring with me when I enter the workforce. In my free time, I enjoy playing word games such as scrabble as well learning and performing magic tricks,” he wrote in his profile.

Meyers graduated from Connecticut’s Fairfield Ludlowe High School in 2023, according to his LinkedIn page.
