Charlamagne Tha God on Wednesday took on CNN political commentator Van Jones for arguing that New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani âmissed an opportunityâ in what he described as a âsharpâ-toned victory speech.
Jones â moments after Mamdani wrapped up his speech â claimed that the democratic socialist wasnât as âcalmâ and âembracingâ as he was on the campaign trail, adding that he missed his chance to bring more people into his âtentâ and displayed a âlittle bit of a character switch.â

The radio host â who took part in CNNâs election night coverage but did not appear on a panel with Jones â gave the networkâs political commentator the âDonkey of the Dayâ title on Power 105.1 FMâs âBreakfast Clubâ before questioning what he found âdivisiveâ about the democratic socialistâs speech.
âVan, shut the F up forever, OK? There was no opportunity missed, the man just won, all right? Like he just won. After you won, yes, youâre gonna celebrate. Yes, youâre going to talk loud. What do you mean he wasnât warm enough?â he said.

Charlamagne â earlier in the segment â tossed to a clip of Mamdani remarking on his hopes to work with police officers to reduce crime and tackle homelessness.
Elsewhere in the speech, Mamdani declared that âyour struggle is ours tooâ after referring to immigrants, the transgender community, single mothers and Black women who President Donald Trump âfired from a federal job.â
âHow is any of that divisive?â said Charlamagne, noting that Mamdani spoke to the working class of âall racesâ in his remarks.
Charlamagne later stressed that Mamdani âdeserved to take a victory lap.â
âI just donât understand how in the era of Trump, weâre still telling people how to talk. The language of politics is dead and Donald Trump killed it. And you know when you can really talk that talk? After you win,â he said.
Charlamagne went on to suggest that Jones took issue with Mamdaniâs comments about âbad landlords,â billionaires and the president.
âSo how can Van Jones be mad that someone is challenging capitalism and authoritarian strategy?â he asked.
