  • The suspect in the shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk is in custody, Trump and law enforcement said on Friday.

  • The suspect was turned in by someone “very close” to him, Trump said on “Fox & Friends.”

  • Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said law enforcement found unused ammunition inscribed with the message, “Hey fascist, catch.”

A suspect in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk is in custody after a multi-day manhunt.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed President Donald Trump’s announcement on Friday morning that law enforcement had a suspect in custody.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we got him,” Cox said during a Friday morning news conference.

Officials said the suspect was named Tyler Robinson.

Cox said that law enforcement interviewed one of Robinson’s family members. The family member said that Robinson had mentioned Kirk’s upcoming appearance at Utah Valley University. The family member said that Robinson had become increasingly political.

Among the unused ammunition that law enforcement found, Cox said that one of the casings was inscribed with the message, “Hey fascist, catch.”

FBI Director Kash Patel said the suspect was taken into custody on Thursday night at 10 p.m. local time.

Earlier on Friday, President Donald Trump said that a suspect was in custody.

“I think with a high degree of certainty we have him in custody,” Trump said while speaking on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“You have breaking news,” Trump said, saying he had been told just before coming onto the show. “We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for.”

Trump said that the suspect had been turned in by someone “very close to him,” adding the tipster was a “person involved with law enforcement, but was a person of faith. A minister.”

On Thursday night, the FBI released several photos and video footage of a “person of interest” as the manhunt for Kirk’s shooter continued.

“We are asking for the public’s help identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University,” the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office wrote in a Thursday afternoon post on X.

The FBI said it was offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to “the identification and arrest of the individual(s) responsible” for Kirk’s death.

The agency released six photos of the person of interest on Thursday.

He was wearing a black pullover with what appeared to be a picture of the American flag on the front, with blue jeans and a cap. He was carrying a large black backpack.

The FBI released a video of the shooter at around 10 p.m. ET on Thursday. In the caption, the agency wrote, “The subject is seen jumping from the rooftop of a building after the shooting.”

“Around 12 p.m. Mountain Time on September 10, 2025, the subject climbed up to a rooftop; after he shot and killed Charlie Kirk, he jumped off and ran away,” the agency wrote.

The FBI added that the shooter had left a gun and ammunition in a wooded area near the university, and that officials had traced shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print from the rooftop in the video.

Earlier in the day, authorities said they had recovered a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” they believe was used to kill Kirk.

Utah Commissioner of Public Safety Beau Mason said law enforcement was able to track the suspect from their arrival on the Utah Valley University campus at 11:52 a.m. through fleeing the scene after a single shot was fired around roughly 12:20 p.m. Law enforcement recovered the rifle believed to be used in the attack in a wooded area near the campus.

Mason said the individual appeared to be “college age” and was able to “blend in” well with the Utah Valley University crowd that had gathered to hear Kirk speak.

Kirk was rushed to an area hospital after being shot in the neck but died from his injuries on Wednesday afternoon. President Donald Trump and scores of political and business leaders have praised Kirk’s legacy of building youth support for the conservative movement.

Two persons of interest were initially taken into custody on Wednesday but were released after authorities determined they were not involved in Kirk’s killing. Mason also asked people to stop harassing the two individuals who had since been released.

Utah Valley University announced on Wednesday evening that its campus will remain closed through Sunday. Mason said that he spoke with Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s wife, on Wednesday and that law enforcement is doing everything it can to get Kirk’s body home to his family after an examination by the state medical examiner.

Trump said that he would posthumously award Kirk with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. The president said that Kirk’s legacy will live on.

“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty, and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” Trump said during an event at the Pentagon marking the September 11th anniversary.
