A wave of spiritual solidarity swept through Sokoto yesterday as over 500 Islamic clerics and scholars converged on the residence of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to offer special prayers for his vindication in an ongoing probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
The gathering, held at Tambuwal’s Kontagora Road residence in Sokoto, was convened by prominent Islamic scholar Mallam Sanusi Danbature, and it attracted clerics from across the state.
In fervent supplications, the religious leaders prayed for Allah’s guidance and protection for the former governor, who was recently arrested and released by the EFCC over alleged financial misappropriation during his 2015–2023 tenure.
They also called on the anti-graft agency to conduct a thorough, fair, and politically unbiased investigation.
Speaking to journalists after the prayer session, Danbature described Tambuwal as a leader of “unquestionable integrity” whose time in office was marked by significant infrastructural and social development.
“Tambuwal governed Sokoto State with the fear of Allah. His achievements speak for themselves. We are confident he will be vindicated,” Danbature said.
The prayer session attracted political heavyweights, community leaders, and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, all reaffirming their loyalty to Tambuwal.
The state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bello Aliyu Goronyo, thanked the clerics and supporters for their “overwhelming show of love” and reiterated the party’s confidence that the EFCC would clear the former governor if it remained impartial.
Arewa PUNCH reports that the EFCC’s investigation into Tambuwal’s administration has been ongoing for months, but his loyalists insist the process must be devoid of political manipulation.
For now, Tambuwal’s camp remains resolute – bolstered by both political loyalty and spiritual backing – while the probe continues.
