Colorado’s flags will fly at half-staff through sunset Aug. 31 to honor the victims and families of those involved in a Minneapolis, Minnesota, church shooting Aug. 27, as directed by President Donald Trump’s proclamation.

Two children were killed and at least 17 people were injured Aug. 27, when a shooter fired through the windows of a Minneapolis Catholic Church toward young students worshipping at Mass, according to a USA TODAY story.

The shooting occurred at Annunciation Church, which also houses a school. The children who were killed were ages 8 and 10. Fourteen of the 17 injured were children, and two of them are in critical condition, USA TODAY reported.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis condemned the attack, stating in a news release that children, parents and families shouldn’t have to wonder about their safety in classrooms, neighborhoods, places of worship and communities.

“This is an awful attack, and I know the community will come together to remember those lost and support one another,” Polis stated in the news release. “Colorado sends our deepest condolences to our friends in Minneapolis and Minnesota during this challenging time.”

USA TODAY reporters Jeanine Santucci, Corey Schmidt and Jorge L. Ortiz contributed to this story.
