Bulk retailer Costco is advising customers who purchased a batch of its Kirkland brand prosecco to discard of the bottles immediately due to a risk of shattering, according to a product notice.

The product notice concerns Costco’s Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene, item No. 1879870.
Why is Costco recalling prosecco?
The wholesale chain said in its product notice that there is a risk of unopened bottles shattering, “even when not handling or in use.”
Were recalled products sold in Illinois?
Yes; the recalled products were sold between April 25 and Aug. 26, 2025, in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
What to do if you purchased recalled Kirkland Prosecco
Costco warns consumers who purchased the product to not open any unopened bottles.
The company says instead of returning the product, you should immediately discard the bottles by wrapping them in paper towels and placing them in a plastic bag before putting them in the trash to avoid shattering the glass. Consumers can receive a full refund upon returning the mailed product notice to their nearest Costco location.
