Nigeria has clinched another milestone in international policing as Commissioner of Police, Olubode Ojajuni, was elected into the INTERPOL Africa Committee during the 27th African Regional Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Force, in a statement by its spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, said the election “secured for Nigeria the fifth seat on the committee with a tenure of two years.”

The INTERPOL Africa Committee is responsible for advising the African Regional Conference in the execution of its mandate, facilitating its sessions, and identifying strategic crime priorities.

It also strengthens police cooperation across borders, advances best practices, and develops projects aimed at enhancing regional and continental security.

“This achievement reflects Nigeria’s growing influence and leadership in global law enforcement matters, particularly in the fight against transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging threats,” the statement added.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, while congratulating Ojajuni, pledged that the Nigeria Police would remain committed to professionalism and active collaboration with international partners.

“The Nigeria Police will sustain active engagement with global partners to promote peace and security worldwide,” the IGP was quoted as saying.

Ojajuni is a former Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer.

He was among 66 senior police officers promoted by the Police Service Commission, in March, 2025.

Before his promotion to Commissioner of Police, Ojajuni served as Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ogun State.

He had earlier served as Principal Officer 3 to former Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and later as Area Commander, Area A Command, Lion Building, Lagos.
