The TinCan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has concluded a week-long in-house training for senior officers, aimed at improving professionalism, operational competence, and leadership capacity within the command.
In a statement released on X on Thursday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Oscar Ivara, said the training, held from October 13 to 17, 2025, brought together officers from various units to deepen their expertise in key operational areas.
Declaring the programme open, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, emphasised the importance of continuous capacity building in sustaining efficiency and integrity within the service.
“This training is not just a routine exercise but an investment in the growth of our personnel.
“I encourage every officer to apply the knowledge gained here to their duties and remain committed to excellence in service delivery,” Onyeka said.
According to him, while the just-concluded session focused on senior officers, similar capacity-building exercises would soon be extended to junior ranks as part of efforts to ensure inclusivity in the Command’s development agenda.
The training featured seasoned resource persons drawn from within the Command and covered topics including physical examination, reputation management, risk management, documentary checks, customs valuation, and code of conduct.
Onyeka, in his closing remarks, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to building a skilled and proactive workforce capable of meeting the evolving challenges of modern customs operations.
