Police are investigating a theft at the Glow Halloween drive-thru in Camden County after a suspect stole an employee’s truck and narrowly missed hitting a worker while fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Black Horse Pike and Cross Keys Road.
According to Washington Township Police, the suspect was not affiliated with the haunted attraction and was not in costume.
“Me and my brother just arrived to work. We were working with his truck and moving stuff and getting ready to open up. In the five minutes we walked away from the truck, someone walked through our wooded area, they went through our storage stuff. Then hopped in his car and drove off the property,” said Nick Michielli, an employee at Glow.
Police Chief Patrick Gurcsik confirmed the stolen vehicle was a Ford truck that had been left with the keys inside. He also noted that the drive-thru had previously been targeted.
“A Ford truck that had the keys in it unfortunately was just stolen, and Glow unfortunately was the victim of a generator theft that shut down their program until they were able to replace it,” Gurcsik said.
“One year exactly we had someone that stole property. They stole a generator from us, this is the third year in a row someone has stolen from us,” Michielli added.
Authorities are using surveillance photos and newly installed license plate readers to locate the stolen vehicle and identify the suspect.
Despite the disruption, the event reopened just hours later.
“Being able to open up just hours later, and seeing all the kids come through and still smile, and getting to bring that joy to the world is a great thing to provide,” Michielli said.
Employees said they are grateful no one was injured and emphasized the importance of the event to the local community.
