(Reuters) -The European Commission has launched market investigations on cloud computing services by Amazon and Microsoft under the digital markets act (DMA), which aims to curb the power of Big Tech and ensuring a level playing field for smaller rivals.
It said it opened two probes to assess if the companies should be designated as gatekeepers for their cloud services Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, plus a third investigation to assess if the DMA can effectively tackle anticompetitive practices in the cloud computing sector.
It said it aims to conclude the investigations within 12 months.
A Microsoft spokesperson said the company was ready to contribute to the enquiry.
