A former amusement park employee recalled how parents handed them their daughter and disappeared.
In a post on the entitled people subreddit, the original poster (OP) recalled an experience during their time working in the quick food service portion at a “very popular theme park in Florida.” OP explained that children normally gravitate toward them, adding kids often wanted OP “hold them or play with them.”
“At church, some toddlers find me just to nap on me during service. In my 20s, children made me kinda nervous because I didn’t know what to do with them and doubted I could care for one, which is wild considering I worked at magical rat planet,” they wrote. “However, my interactions with children there were usually short and polite.”

OP shared that one day during an “extremely busy lunch period,” they were on their way to the cash register when they had to pause to get by a large group of people. The person wrote that they felt a small tug on their shirt sleeve and found a “chubby, baby hand” holding it.
“The baby girl was adorable with big blue eyes and not a lick of hair on her round head. I talked to her sweetly while her mother held her smiling,” OP wrote. “The baby reached out for me to hold her.”
“Her mom gushed about how that never happened. How the baby was not usually social and didn’t like other people,” they continued. “As mentioned above, I was used to this reaction from children. She told me it was okay to hold her and moved her closer to me.”
OP explained that they were in “a conundrum” because they didn’t know the little girl, but interacting with children comes with the job.
“I didn’t want to be rude or seem mean. The baby’s little arms were still up, so I said ‘just for a second’ and picked her up,” explained OP. “She was very chunky and cute! I started talking to the baby who was just very comfortable on my hip.”
“I looked up and y’all, her mom, dad, and grandma had walked away disappearing in the crowd!” they continued. “I didn’t even know their names, the baby’s name or any identifying information other than their physical appearances. I walked around for 30 minutes holding a happy baby looking for her family.”

OP shared that one of their managers eventually came out and they explained what happened to him. When OP tried to give the baby to their manager, they recall him throwing his hands up and saying, “That’s all you! You have to find her parents.” OP went on to walk around for another 10 minutes before spotting the little girls’ grandma in the park.
“She spots me as well and tries to turn around and leave! I catch her and hand her back the baby,” OP shared. “She looked semi-disappointed.”
“People, you can’t just drop your baby off to a complete stranger! They didn’t even leave supplies lol. Just handed me their infant and dipped Father God,” they wrote. “Needless to say, I didn’t hold anymore children, not even for a second.”

In an edit to the post, OP explained that security wasn’t called during the situation because the scenario isn’t uncommon at the theme park.
“Police would have to basically live there if they were called every time parents or guardians ditched their children at magical rat planet,” they wrote. “My incident is literally one of many. That’s the unfortunate truth.”

Many users chimed in under the post writing how they would have reacted to the little girl being left with them. One user shared that they would attempt to go on the intercom and make an announcement saying they were calling the police.
“Honestly I would ask to go on the intercom and say ‘to the people who just handed me their big blue eyed one year old (you didn’t specify her age, so it’s a guess LOL), I’ll be calling the police for abandonment and hopefully they’ll take the kid to the child into protective services, if you want your kid back I’ll be near [this location], otherwise have fun explaining to officers and CPS about child abandonment’ 😤” they wrote.
Other users express their disappointment in the parents for abandoning their daughter. One commenter noted that people like that make them “sick.”
“People like that make me sick. If you can’t handle children, don’t try for them,” they wrote. “Geez I honestly hope that any other children that those people had were taken and given to better folks.”
