A non-profit organisation, The Gamesville Foundation has awarded ₦19.7 million in scholarships to underprivileged children and young people across seven charitable organisations.
According to a statement from the non-profit organisation on Saturday, the scholarships were awarded at a ceremony held in Lagos.
The event was attended by the foundation’s trustees, partners, and representatives of the beneficiary charities.
According to the statement, the recipients included children and youths supported by Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative, Echoes of Mercy and Hope Foundation, JAKIN NGO, Diocesan Special Education Centre, Society for the Empowerment of Young Persons, Candlelight Foundation, and Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative.
The statement read: “The Gamesville Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing recreation and aid to those facing hardship, old age, loneliness, or disability, has awarded ₦19.7 million in scholarships to underprivileged children and young people across seven charitable organizations.
“This year marks the Foundation’s largest single-year scholarship disbursement to date, reaffirming its commitment to transforming lives through education and opportunity.”
Speaking during the ceremony, Co-founder and Trustee of The Gamesville Foundation, Mrs Chidinma Sedenu, urged the beneficiaries to rise above their circumstances.
The statement quoted her as saying, “If anyone in your past or present has told you by their words or by their actions that you would never amount to anything, they lied. Whether you were abandoned, maltreated, poor, or live with a disability, it does not define who you are. You are our future. You are among those who will find cures for current diseases. You will work with technology of the future. You will change the face of our country and the world.”
Founder and President of JAKIN NGO, Mrs Olubukola Adebiyi, who represented one of the partner organisations, commended the Foundation’s consistency and generosity.
“We are always excited to be here — every time we come, it’s a ‘wow’ moment. Despite the current economic realities, The Gamesville Foundation has continued to reach more children, touching lives and strengthening caregivers. They are family to us. Their support for our Dress a Child for School project has helped thousands of orphans and vulnerable children over the years.”
Representatives from all seven partner charities presented their scholarship beneficiaries, several of whom shared emotional testimonies on how the support has changed their lives.
“I want to say a big thank you for your support and all you’ve done in my life. You have helped me with my academics — I’m a prefect this year — and I’m so grateful,” said 16-year-old Emeke Hope, one of the recipients in the statement.
Among the trustees present were Mrs Chidinma Sedenu, Mr Sijuade Oguntayo, Mrs Njide Onyuike, Dr Comfort Obi, and Ms Kolufunse Ajala.
Mr Oguntayo, who also served as the event’s master of ceremonies, underscored the impact of investing in education.
“When we invest in education, we are investing in possibility — in the potential that one child’s opportunity can transform an entire community. This year’s scholarships are a testament to what partnership and shared purpose can achieve.”
Since its establishment, The Gamesville Foundation has raised and disbursed over ₦67 million in scholarships and assistance to orphans and underprivileged children in Lagos through collaborations with reputable non-profit organisations.
In May 2025, PUNCH Online reported that the Gamesville Foundation donated ₦15 million to five non-governmental organisations supporting vulnerable children and communities across Nigeria.
Earlier, the Foundation had also offered ₦7.6 million in scholarships to under-privileged children across three charitable organisations.
