A 31-year-old Frisco man died Thursday morning after police shot him during a confrontation near Frisco Commons Park, authorities said.
Frisco police identified the man as Logan Holliday. Officers responded around 9:50 a.m. to a welfare concern in the 8000 block of McKinney Road after a caller reported that Holliday was armed with a knife and had already harmed himself.
Police found Holliday in a wooded area on the north side of Frisco Commons Park. Despite repeated commands and the use of a less-lethal option, Holliday continued advancing toward officers with the knife, according to officials.
“Fearing for their lives, the officers were forced to fire their duty weapons to stop him,” the department said in a statement.
Officers immediately began lifesaving measures. Frisco Fire medics transported Holliday to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The department said the Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, as required under Frisco Police Department policy regarding critical incidents. Neither the names of the officers involved nor the number of shots fired were released.
Police asked anyone with information to call the non-emergency line at 972-292-6010 or submit a tip through Tip411 by texting “FRISCOPD” plus the information to 847411.
