The Federal Road Safety Corps, Akwa Ibom Sector Command, said it has commenced a regular Special Patrol Operation across the state to arrest and prosecute road traffic offenders in the state.

The sector commander, Francis Ajatta, disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s Public Enlightenment Officer, Paul  James, in Uyo on Monday.

He said the exercise is aimed at ensuring the safety of road users and to further discourage intending offenders against any such act of recklessness behind the wheel.

Ajatta said, “The command has embarked on regular Special Patrol Operations with the sole aim of arresting and prosecuting such offenders in the court of law.

”The special operation is a measure to ensure the safety of road users and to further deter intending offenders against any such act of recklessness behind the wheel.”

The sector commander, therefore, warned motorists against violating critical road traffic offences that could put the lives of other road users in grave danger.

These offences, according to the statement, include: driving against traffic (one-way drive), overloading, driving without a wiper and a broken windshield (especially during this rainy season) and
operating a vehicle without valid documents.

While advising the public to remain and avoid taking action that might jeopardise their safety and other road users, he called on them to leverage the FRSC Mobile Application or the Toll-free Line –122 to promptly report any road crash and other emergencies.

”The general public is therefore advised to remain active and avoid unsafe acts capable of jeopardising the safety of oneself and other road users.

”The general public is also advised to leverage the FRSC Mobile Application or the Toll-free Line –122 to promptly report any road crash and other emergencies,” the statement added.
