A Georgia speeder landed on a list of the fastest traffic stops in U.S. history, thanks to a jaw-dropping violation that pushed the limits of both speed and safety.
Flickit Traffic Ticket Solution shared data on the 10 fastest speeding tickets ever issued in the U.S., with the fastest offense being a Minnesota driver clocked at 205 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Here’s what we know about Georgia’s worst speeding ticket.
Georgia’s worst speeding ticket ever
In 2017, a driver in Georgia was clocked going 155 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone on State Route 400, making this ticket the 6th worst ever recorded in the nation.
Behind the wheel of a McLaren 720S, the driver wasn’t just speeding, they were also under the influence, according to the report.
“The speed limit on this road has since been lowered to 55 mph – perhaps as a precautionary measure after this high-speed stunt,” the report wrote.
Among all the cases featured in the report, this Georgia ticket stands out not just for the speed, but for the added danger of impaired driving, making it one of the most reckless and memorable violations on record.
How much could you pay in Georgia for speeding?
Georgia State Patrol
The study found that Georgia’s most common speeding fine can cost up to $500, and 11% of drivers in the state have a speeding ticket on their record, one of the highest rates in the country.
Georgia’s DUI laws
Georgia also enforces strict rules when it comes to driving under the influence. A first-time DUI conviction in the state results in an automatic one-year license suspension, no exceptions.
That’s among the harshest penalties in the U.S., putting Georgia in the company of Illinois and Indiana when it comes to strict DUI enforcement.
What states have the strictest traffic laws?
Illinois took the top spot, according to Forbes, for strictest traffic laws, with fines reaching up to $1,500 for drivers caught going 26–34 mph over the limit.
