AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) — Auburn police announced on Friday that a man was taken into custody after being accused of identity and property theft.
According to Auburn police officials, officers, along with troopers with the Georgia State Patrol, arrested 30-year-old Demtreus Vontrail Davis of Conley, Georgia, on felony warrants of identity theft and first-degree theft of property.
The arrest comes after authorities received a report involving a forged check on Dec. 5, 2024, when a victim says the check was posted for mail at a location in Auburn back in December 2024.
Authorities say the check was stolen, altered and deposited into a bank account associated with an unknown suspect.
An investigation launched by Auburn police revealed Davis as the suspect, which led to arrest warrants being obtained.
GSP troopers located Davis and arrested him for outstanding warrants as he was detained at the Henry County Jail in Georgia and was extradited back to Auburn on Wednesday. He was then taken to Lee County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond.
