The Gombe State Police Command on Saturday confirmed the death of the driver of the late Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (retd).

Our correspondent reports late commissioner, alongside his driver and orderly were returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, where the government official had attended the North-East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) framework.

The driver, whose name has not been officially disclosed, reportedly died on Saturday, October 25, 2025, while receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash that also claimed the lives of Bello and his police orderly, Corporal Adamu Hussaini.

In a condolence message issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the police expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, describing the deceased as dedicated public servants who committed their lives to the service and safety of Gombe State.

The statement partly read, “The Gombe State Police Command wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Gombe State, as well as to the immediate families of the late Hon. Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (retd.), his police orderly CPL. Adamu Hussaini Gamawa, and their driver who died today 25th October 2025, while receiving treatment, who tragically lost their lives in a fatal motor vehicle accident along Kwami–Malam Sidi–Gombe road on 24th October, 2025.”

Abdullahi disclosed that the command deeply mourns the passing of these dedicated public servants whose lives were devoted to the service and safety of the State.

“Their deaths are a great loss not only to their families but to the entire Gombe State and the nation at large.

“The Commissioner of Police, officers, and men of the command pray for the repose of their souls and for Almighty Allah to grant their families, colleagues, and loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

“May their souls rest in perfect peace,” statement added.
