The Gombe State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the vandalism and theft of railways line steel slippers in Nassarawo Quarters, Gombe State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the suspects were apprehended on August 11, 2025, by a patrol team from the Gona Division during routine surveillance.

“Three suspects –  Haruna Aliyu, 20; Adamu Aliyu, 20; and Umar Ibrahim, 18 — were intercepted in a white Toyota pick-up van loaded with 19 pieces of high-quality railway steel slippers,” Abdullahi said.

He explained that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to removing the items from the railway line in the area.

“Their confessions,” he added, “led to the arrest of four other accomplices: Amir Muhammad, 25; Mubarak Garba, 25; Yusuf Umar, 25, identified as a receiver; and Sadiq Saidu, 23, also a receiver.

“All seven suspects admitted to their roles in the vandalism and theft. The exhibits have been documented, and investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department for prosecution,” the PPRO disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, while commending the vigilance of the patrol team, warned that “the command

would not tolerate acts of sabotage against critical infrastructure.

“We are committed to protecting public property and ensuring that vandals face the full weight of the law.

“Members of the public should remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly,” the CP advised.
