Group seeks police protection in fight against malaria

An advocacy team has requested Police protection to distribute malaria-preventive mosquito nets and medication for pregnant women and children.

The team from the State Ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Health made the request when it paid an advocacy visit to the Niger State Commissioner of  Police, Adamu Elleman, at the State Police Command Headquarters.

The leader of the team, Hajia Amina Edwar,d explained that the purpose of the visit was to inform the Command ahead of their planned outreach programme, with the distribution of malaria-preventive mosquito nets and medication for pregnant women and children below the age of five years across the wards and LGAs in the state.

“The program is another edition of the ongoing campaign against malaria in the State, in partnership with the Society for Family Health.

“We appeal for the support of the Command in providing adequate security coverage across all the areas where the distribution exercise would be taking place so as to ensure orderliness and proper accountability during the entire process,” she said.

The Commissioner of Police who welcomed the team and lauded the initiative, said that It was a commendable humanitarian gesture to provide relief for communities affected by malaria in the state.

“It is indeed a commendable humanitarian gesture which would provide assistance and relief for communities affected by malaria in the state.

“The Command assures you of our support and assistance in coordinating the distribution of the materials whilst ensuring adequate security coverage,” Elleman said.

He disclosed that information regarding the team’s proposed activities would be circulated across all the Police Divisions in areas where the distribution will take place and appreciated the team for opting to provide succour to communities battling malaria.
