WEST PALM BEACH — Heat index values are expected to climb into the low three digits this morning as another hot day settles in across South Florida.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory early today predicting feels-like temperatures of 105 and higher for West Palm Beach. Heat index temperatures could hit as high as 107 in Immokalee and La Belle, the Weather Service said.
The heat advisory is in effect through 7 p.m. for all of South Florida except for coastal Collier County and mainland Monroe County.
The agency said people are under a “major” heat risk with prolonged exposure to the outdoors.
People are advised to limit outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and to frequently hydrate, making sure to drink water before you are thirsty. Air conditioning is advised, as open windows and fans will not be enough to ward off the heat, and residents are encouraged to stay inside in a cool place if possible.
Sunday looks to be another heat advisory day, according to the National Weather Service. But chances of precipitation will increase during the week, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms by Thursday.
