A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi, has said robust agricultural programmes will strengthen the state’s economy.
In a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH, Babayemi lamented that poor road networks across the state, particularly in rural communities, continued to damage farm produce and hinder agricultural productivity each year.
According to the statement, Babayemi spoke during the continuation of his ward-to-ward visit to four local governments of Irewole, Ife North, Oriade and Ilesa East on Friday.
He stated that APC administration, after winning the Osun 2026 governorship election, would focus more on the rural areas without neglecting the urban centres, adding that rural roads would be given due attention.
Babayemi was quoted to have said, “It’s only agriculture that can save the economy of Osun State, and without good road networks, that dream is impossible. What could save us in this state is to create economic space and opportunities.
“We are well situated in the Southwest; there is no state Osun does not share a border with; Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, and Kwara. We are right in the middle. We ought to be the engine room of the Southwest economy.”
