The Taskforce on Illegal Mining in Cross River, chaired by Prince Paul Effiong, has arrested several individuals involved in illegal mining activities of Limestones in Akamkpa Local Government of the state.
The arrests were made on Tuesday following a series of raids conducted by the taskforce in response to increasing reports of illegal mining in the area.
Chairman of the Taskforce, Prince Paul Effiong said that despite repeated warnings, illegal mining activities have continued to rise, prompting the taskforce to take decisive action.
He said, “Our duty is to protect the state’s resources and ensure that all mining activities are conducted in accordance with the law.”
“We will not tolerate illegal mining in Cross River State. We urge all miners to operate within the law,” Prince Effiong said.
The taskforce has vowed to continue its operations and arrest on anyone found to be engaged in illegal mining activities, adding that the taskforce will not be deterred by any attempts to intimidate or disrupt its work.
“We are committed to supporting responsible mining practices that benefit the state and its people. We will not be deterred by any attempts to intimidate or disrupt its work”, Effiong explained.
The taskforce has called on the public to report any instances of illegal mining to the authorities.
