LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – Just in time for the spooky season, you may be noticing more and more webs on Ohio trees.
No, these don’t belong to any giant spiders.
The large webs are the work of fall webworms. Maybe even the work of a couple of generations of fall webworms.

This year, experts report a particularly eye-catching infestation in Logan County.
Trifecta in the sky: Did you see it?
The Ohio State University Extension reported the outbreak in a Sept. 13 article of Buckeye Yard and Garden OnLine. According to the report, the infestation is impacting an estimated 200 acres of woodlands, primarily black walnut trees.

The report included several pictures to show the “magnitude of the outbreak.” Officials describe numerous large nests in tree canopies with some trees fully encased in heavy webbing.
Experts said “these dramatic population explosions are usually rare and highly localized.”
Thankfully, the fall webworm and its webs are mostly harmless and experts explain control measures for fall webworms are usually not needed.
