The Gifford Fire, an intense blaze in the Los Padres National Forest near the eastern portions of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, has become the state’s largest fire this season. High, strong, and shifting winds, combined with extreme heat, have helped create a destructive fire that has now burned more than 82,000 acres. As of Tuesday, less than 10% of the area has been contained, with firefighters taking to the frontlines to battle the widespread wildfire.
