The Jigawa State Government has declared Wednesday (today) a work-free day to mark the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.
The state was created on August 27, 1991.
It was carved out from the old Kano State.
At the same time, other states created include Yobe, Enugu, Bauchi, and Kogi States, all part of the same state creation exercise aimed at administrative convenience and fostering development.
In a statement signed by the Jigawa State Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, and made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, the residents are encouraged to join festivities and activities planned across the state to celebrate the special day.
The government congratulated all Jigawa indigenes on the milestone and encouraged them to pray for both Jigawa and Nigeria as they celebrate this historic day.
According to the statement, the day off is meant for public servants and residents to reflect and give thanks to Almighty Allah for the state’s blessings and peaceful coexistence.
“The declaration aims to allow people to properly participate in the anniversary events and communal prayers without work distractions,” the statement added.
Dagaceri urged everyone to use the break to appreciate the progress Jigawa has made since its creation and to pray for a brighter future.
The government also highlighted the importance of unity and continued development as Jigawa moves forward into its 35th year.
“This move reflects the state’s commitment to honouring its unique history and promoting community spirit among its people,” it added.
