In a bid to strengthen peace and security in the state, the Jigawa State Police Command held peace talks with the Local Hunters’ group and the Igbo Community Association.
The development was disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse, the state capital.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Dahiru Muhammad, hosted a productive town hall meeting with local hunters, Igbo community leaders, and senior government officials to collaborate with all stakeholders on enhancing security across the state.
During the meeting, Muhammad welcomed the delegation, praising their strong membership base and leadership structure.
He assured the hunters of the police command’s readiness to partner with them and promised capacity-building training to enhance their professionalism.
The CP also pledged to address the hunters’ mobility challenges with relevant authorities, demonstrating the command’s commitment to strengthening grassroots security.
“Our mission is to deepen community-driven policing by partnering with groups crucial to Jigawa’s security fabric,” CP Muhammad said.
He added that such engagements build trust between the police and the public, enhancing collective efforts against insecurity.
The local hunters’ group, led by Lamido Wada, pledged steadfast commitment to safeguarding forests and supporting security initiatives.
They requested improved communication channels with security agencies, professional training, and mobility support, such as motorcycles, to ease their operations.
Meanwhile, the Igbo Community Association, led by Chief Christopher Agbo, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the police in maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.
Agbo emphasised the importance of fostering a peaceful environment for business and social activities, pledging full cooperation with law enforcement.
SP Shi’isu Adam reminded residents that peace and security require continuous collaboration and vigilance.
“This inclusive approach is expected to foster more resilient communities better equipped to tackle security challenges together,” he said.
