A former presidential aspirant of the Action Democratic Party, Mathias Tsado, has urged close associates of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Tsado, who was the presidential candidate of the Liberation Movement in 2019, made the call during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday.

He argued that Jonathan’s return to power was the most viable solution to Nigeria’s mounting economic and security challenges.

“We need him back in 2027. This is not about politics but about saving Nigeria. He has the experience, the temperament, and the vision to bring our country back from the brink,” Tsado said.

According to him, Jonathan’s tenure left behind strong democratic values and reforms that could be revived to restore stability. He noted that many Nigerians still regard the former president as a unifying figure.

Tsado also appealed to Jonathan’s political allies to intensify efforts at persuading him, stressing that the nation was at a critical crossroads.

“Those around him should speak to him with one voice. Nigeria needs him more than ever. His leadership style is what can calm tensions and redirect the economy,” he added.

The call comes amid speculations in political circles over potential contenders for the 2027 presidential race. While Jonathan has not indicated any interest in running, Tsado insisted that the former leader remained the best hope for national recovery.
