Former Vice President Kamala Harris told pro-Palestinian protestors she âappreciatesâ them before criticizing ex-President Joe Bidenâs administration, saying they should have publicly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the war in Gaza.
Harris made the comment during a conversation with Angela Rye, one of the co-hosts of the Native Land podcast, while in Seattle on Nov. 4. The event â part of Harrisâ ongoing book tour â was interrupted by protestors, which spurred the ex-VP to comment on Israel and Gaza.
âLook, we shouldâve done more as an administration,â Harris said. âWe shouldâve done more.â
That comment led to applause from the audience.
âWe shouldâve spoken publicly about our criticism of the way that Netanyahu and his government were executing this war,â Harris continued.
More applause followed. She then added, âWe had more levers, in terms of leverage, that we did not useâ on Israel â apparently to get it to wrap up the war quicker.
Harris also gave kudos to the protestors and said, âI would not exist if it werenât for people who were active in protesting injustice.â
The Jewish News Syndicate reported anti-Israel protestors ârepeatedlyâ interrupted Harris during her Seattle event.
âJNS observed demonstrators both inside and outside the event. Some donned keffiyehs and waved Palestinian flags, chanting, âKamala, you canât hide, you profit from genocide,’â the outlet reported.
Video of the event was posted to Native Landâs YouTube account on Monday.
Her comments were made less than a month after President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
The agreement ended Israelâs military operation in Gaza, which started soon after Hamas terrorists broke into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and killed about 1,200 people and took hundreds of hostages; 20 living hostages were freed last month as part of the peace deal.
Harris, during the event, said America is currently dealing with âmoments of darknessâ under the Trump Administration. She said she is âhappyâ a ceasefire deal was made, but she expressed skepticism it will hold, saying âwe will see how long it lasts.â
âBut letâs be very clear, that the inhuman nature of what has happened to the Palestinian people in Gaza, the innocent civilians, the extent of hunger, famine, suffering, death, is something that we must acknowledge,â Harris said right after. âAnd I recognize that.â
Her comments on Netanyahu and Israel come as Harris has made a number of other headlines while promoting 107 Days, her new book chronicling her doomed bid to win the 2024 election.
Some other highlights include: An Australian reporter accusing Harris of a âworld classâ dodge on a question about Bidenâs cognitive decline; Harris saying she was perhaps the âmost qualifiedâ person to run for president in U.S. history; Harris blasting the Trump Administration while in Los Angeles, saying âThese mothaf*ckas are crazy!â
