Kano State Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Isma’ila Danmaraya, has secured admission and offered scholarships to 11 indigent youths from Danbatta Local Government Area of the state.
Danbatta Local Government Area is one of the key agrarian hubs of Kano State, but it faces challenges in education, youth employment, and access to clean water.
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Public Enlightenment of the Kano State Ministry of Finance, Ameen K. Yassar, a copy of which was made available to PUNCH Online on Sunday.
According to the statement, each of the beneficiaries received ₦50,000 in financial support to study various health-related courses at the College of Health Technology, Bebeji, Kano State.
In addition to the scholarships, the commissioner pledged to refurbish boreholes in Saidawa, Fagwalawa, and Kore communities, also within Danbatta LGA, to improve access to clean water and sanitation.
He also provided funds for civil works, including interlocking and the construction of sheds at two community Islamiyya schools, aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions.
Speaking while addressing a group of youths on Saturday, Danmaraya explained that the initiative was his way of giving back to society.
“This is about leveraging our circumstances or opportunities to impact our communities in the best way possible. We were given scholarships by the Kwankwaso, without knowing us, as a result of which we are where we are today. Therefore, we have a duty to support our younger ones to progress,” he said.
He urged youths in Danbatta not to relent in pursuing education despite economic challenges, stressing that “With every challenge, there is a potentiality.”
In their separate remarks, Prof. Abdurrahman Tahir and Dr. Umar Mustafa commended the commissioner for initiating the Dambatta Progressive Forum, a community-driven initiative designed to complement government efforts in improving development across the area.
NNPP party stalwarts, pensioners, and beneficiaries of empowerment programmes also praised Danmaraya for his continued service and support for grassroots development.
Initiatives like the one championed by Danmaraya are part of wider efforts to bridge gaps in health education and basic infrastructure in rural communities.
Kano State has one of the largest populations of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
