Kano Converts Orphanage to Drug Reformatory with N1.3bn Fund

The Kano State Government has approved the release of N1.3 billion for the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage into a Female Drugs Reformatory Institute, as well as the construction of a standard transit centre in Gaya Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, made the disclosure while addressing a news conference on the outcome of the 30th State Executive Council meeting on Friday.

He said the council has also approved the release of N9.8bn for the re-award of contracts for the construction of Jaba- Gayawa road and dualisation of Dakata-Yadakunya (Bela) road.

“The council approved the revocation and re-award of contracts for the construction of Jaba-Gayawa Road and dualization of Dakata-Yadakunya road at ₦3.7 billion and ₦6.1 billion respectively,” the commissioner said.

Similarly, he said, the meeting has approved the rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital (Jakara) at the cost of ₦364.5 million in addition to the renovation of existing Infrastructure at the School of Health Technology Bebeji at the cost of ₦294.4 million.

Waiya disclosed that N113.9 million was also approved for the Supply and Installation of Solar Energy Systems to five maternity facilities in the state.

He said, “In addition, the supply of drugs and consumables to Hasiya Bayero, Murtala Muhammad, and Yadakunya hospitals from (July–September 2025) would also gulp ₦112.3 million.

“During the deliberations, the Council extensively discussed matters of strategic importance to the development of our dear State. Several key approvals were granted, targeted at consolidating the administration’s people-oriented developmental agenda, especially in the critical areas of health, infrastructure, water supply, and rural development.”

Waiya said the state government remains committed to its vision of rebuilding a better Kano State.
