The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the out-of-school children crisis through a strengthened partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission.
Governor Kabir Yusuf made this known on Friday when he received the leadership of UBEC, led by its Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, at the Government House in Kano.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the visit marked a renewed collaboration between the Federal Government and the Kano State Government to overhaul the basic education system.
Yusuf said the state was intensifying investments in infrastructure, school furniture, learning materials, and the overall learning environment to ensure every child has access to quality education.
“Our goal is simple but urgent — to get every child off the street and into the classroom. We are working closely with UBEC and other stakeholders to make this vision a reality,” the governor said.
Garba, while commending the Kano State Government for what she described as “giant strides” in education reform, expressed confidence in the state’s ability to lead the way in reversing the tide of illiteracy.
“Kano is taking bold steps. With Governor Yusuf’s leadership and UBEC’s support, we are optimistic that the number of out-of-school children will significantly decline,” she said.
The meeting marks a major milestone in deepening federal-state collaboration to confront one of Nigeria’s most pressing development challenges.
