Kano State’s Task Force on Mobilisation for Voter Registration has inaugurated 12 specialised subcommittees to strengthen its operations and accelerate voter registration across the state.
The inauguration, which took place on Tuesday at the office of the Chairman, also Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, was aimed at improving coordination, stakeholder engagement, and public mobilisation.
Speaking during the event, Waiya explained that the subcommittees were organised based on expertise to ensure effective collaboration and smooth interaction with diverse groups.
“Each subcommittee has a specific focus, ranging from publicity, engagement with local governments, women’s and youth groups, students, religious and traditional institutions, to the business community,” he said.
Other subcommittees cover civil society organisations, NGOs, persons with special disabilities, ICT, data collection and analysis, transport workers, including NURTW, NATO, and tricycle operators, and the Fulani community.
Waiya added that each group is expected to prepare a detailed engagement template and practical work plan within three days, which will then be harmonised and implemented by the central coordinating team.
Governor Abba Yusuf, he said, has commended the Task Force’s proactive efforts, noting that the recognition serves as both encouragement and a call to deepen their commitment.
“Our work goes beyond administrative assignments; it is a patriotic responsibility that requires sacrifice and sincerity of purpose. We must mobilise citizens with passion and commitment to obtain their voter cards, which remain the strongest tool for democratic participation and good governance,” Waiya emphasised.
The Task Force Chairman also revealed that members received a comprehensive briefing from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Voter Education Officer, Malam Garba Ashiru, who provided technical guidance on voter registration to better equip the subcommittees in assisting citizens.
