The Kano State Government says it remains committed to sustaining a strong partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission to advance basic education across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the assurance when he received the UBEC Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Kano.
This is contained in a statement released by the Director of Social Mobilisation, Kano State Universal Basic Education Board, Balarabe Jazuli, a copy of which was made available to PUNCH Online on Sunday.
“My administration remains committed to sustaining a strong partnership with UBEC to promote basic education across the 44 local government areas of the state,” the governor was quoted as saying.
Yusuf said the state government would continue to admit students strictly on merit and ensure the deployment of qualified teachers and essential non-teaching staff to guarantee a conducive learning environment at the new Bilingual School in Kiru LGA.
He said the state government has a keen interest in uplifting education at all levels, citing the recent sponsorship of students abroad for postgraduate studies in various fields, in addition to others currently receiving sponsorship within and outside the country.
“These efforts are aimed at strengthening the pool of qualified professionals to support the state’s long-term development goals,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to the UBEC Executive Secretary for her dedication to educational development, assuring that the government is fully prepared to sustain the operations of the newly constructed Bilingual School for the benefit of the people of Kano State.
In her remarks, the UBEC Executive Secretary said she was in the state to inspect the construction of Bilingual Schools and seek the governor’s approval for the commissioning date of the fully completed Bilingual School in Kiru.
She disclosed that the Islamic Development Bank, the Federal Government, and the Kano State Government jointly funded the construction of the Bilingual Schools as part of efforts to strengthen basic education.
She added that similar Bilingual Schools are under construction in Doguwa, Ungogo, and Ganduje in Dawakin Tofa LGAs.
Garba commended Yusuf for his commitment to improving education and urged the government to maintain strict supervision of ongoing school projects to ensure quality work, adherence to standards, and timely completion.
