Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, will on Monday, September 8, 2025, inaugurate the newly reconstituted Shuurah Council at the Government House, Kano.
According to the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the council is designed to strengthen participatory governance, inclusiveness, and transparency in decision-making.
“The establishment of the Shuurah Council represents a significant step in strengthening participatory governance, inclusiveness, and transparency in decision-making,” Waiya said in a statement issued Tuesday.
The council will serve as an advisory body to the state government, providing informed guidance on policies and programmes geared towards advancing Yusuf’s transformation agenda and promoting sustainable development.
The governor, who is widely known for his emphasis on people-oriented governance, is expected to use the inauguration to outline the council’s objectives and mandate, as well as reaffirm his administration’s commitment to accountability, equity, and citizen participation in governance.
The Shuurah Council comprises respected personalities drawn from critical stakeholder constituencies, with a view to ensuring balanced representation across diverse social groups in Kano.
“All members of the Council, as well as invited guests, are enjoined to attend the event as the Kano State Government takes another important stride in consolidating the democratic ideals of citizens’ participation in governance and strengthening institutions for enhanced service delivery,” Waiya added.
